Transfer News: FC Barcelona Want Dortmunds Gundogan

FC Barcelona have drawn up a Bundesliga wish list with Borussia Dortmund stars Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels plus Monchengladbach's Marc-Andre ter Stegen all featuring.
At the request of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, FC Barcelona are scouting for talent in Germany. The Catalans have been linked with transfer moves for Mats Hummels and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. But a third name now joins the Bundesliga shopping list: Ilkay Gundogan.

Gundogan, alongside Hummels, rose to international attention for their performances with Jürgen Klopp’s Dortmund. The 22-year-old Gundogan has become one of the side’s key players, a midfield orchestrater with incredible passing and vision that belies his relative youth. His particular skill set means that Gundogan would slot seamlessly into Barcelona’s style of possession-based football. And with Xavi’s genius getting no younger, a young understudy like Gundogan could be exactly what Barcelona need for coming years.

However, Gundogan has summarily dismissed transfer rumors in the past, insisting that he would like to stay on at Dortmund. His teammate Mats Hummels, on the other hand, has stated that he would not be adverse to signing for Barcelona should they come knocking. Already hailed as one of the best center backs in the world, Mats Hummels has both the experience and potential for even further growth.

And with Victor Valdes’ departure imminent, Barcelona have Borussia Mönchengladbach’s young goalkeeper on their replacements short list. Ter Stegen has the qualities for the job. The 20-year-old is a modern goalkeeper par excellence, the proverbial “11th outfielder” with excellent distribution skills to go with his shot-stopping prowess. A transfer to Barcelona would be a huge step forward in the youngster’s development.

These are three young but experienced players, the ultimate high-yield investment. More importantly, all three are well-suited to Barcelona’s football philosophy and would make fine additions to the squad for 2013/14.

And although Cuenca has now been given the all-clear by Barca's doctors, the club are keen for him to move away from the Nou Camp on a short-term deal in order to regain his match fitness.

Catalan boss Tito Vilanova is well-stocked up front, with Lionel Messi, Pedro, Alexis Sanchez and Cristian Tello already on the books. That means Cuenca is unlikely to be used by the La Liga leaders for the rest of the season.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, club chiefs are eager to ship out Cuenca before the transfer window ends next week.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have previously been linked with a move for the Spanish youth international, with Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger similarly desperate to bring in extra bodies this month.

Arsenal have already tried to land Cuenca's team-mate David Villa this month, while Liverpool could turn to the Barca youngster if they miss out on Inter Milan's Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona FC Target Miralem Pjanic

The North London club are desperately looking to bolster their midfield in January, as manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen to fill up the voids left by Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart, both left the club in the summer to Real Madrid and Hamburg respectively.

The 22-year-old who joined Roma from French outfit Lyon in 2011 for 11m Euros has come under criticism from manager Zdeněk Zeman is recent months despite putting in impressive performances on a regular basis. Though Michele Gerbino, agent of Pjanic, doesn’t see any chances of his client moving out in the next transfer window, but could consider exceptionally good offers.

Although Roma are refusing to enter into any sort of negotiation for their star midfielder at the moment, but according to reports in Spain, Catalan giants Barcelona are hopeful of pricing the Bosnian international away in January.

The chances of playing for one of the best teams in the world would definitely tempt the player to think about his future again and could make him reject a move to Spurs.
