City were understood to have been preparing a January bid for the former Valencia star before news of Chelsea's interest.

According to AS, Blues owner Roman Abramovich wants to add yet another versatile attacker to his growing squad of flair players at Stamford Bridge and sees Isco as an ideal fit.

After coming to prominence in Malaga's run to a Champions League finish last season, the Spanish wonderkid was almost sold to Tottenham to ease the club's financial troubles.

However, Malaga have secured their finances and could use the extra revenue generated by qualifying for the Champions League knock-out stages to try and keep Isco.
