Transfer Rumours: Arsenal's Wenger Hints at Stephan El Shaarawy Move

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has shown some intriguing interest regarding AC Milan's revelation of the season, forward Stephan El Shaarawy.

The young Italian has been on fire for the Rossoneri, stepping up to the plate after the high profile departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, to become Milan's attacking focal point, scoring 13 goals in 16 appearances this season.

Aged only 20, his progress is truly remarkable, and his creativity and technique are a rare commodity in the current AC Milan cohort.

The London Metro quoted Wenger at the weekend, heaping praise on the youngster when asked his opinion: "El Shaarawy is a very mobile, very technical young player. His philosophy fits perfectly with mine."

When questioned about the possibility of bringing El Shaarawy to north London, he replied: "You never know, I just say I love the way he plays."

It is truly remarkable for Wenger, notorious for his strict secrecy regarding potential transfers, to make such open statements of admiration of another team's player. And, it will come as exciting news for Arsenal fans, as El Shaarawy would be a perfect replacement for the supposedly departing Theo Walcott.

The Italy international has pace in abundance, and sublime technique and vision, making him capable of playing on either wing or behind the striker. He is expected to cost in the region of £20 million, but with Milan rumoured to be in for several targets in January, they may be tempted to sell to the Gunners.

Arsenal fans' frustrations would surely be eased by the signature of such a highly rated prospect in the January window, after the Gunners' squad has been so badly exposed for its lack of depth.

While Wenger's comments are far from conclusive, they are suggestive enough to make an Arsenal fan dream that maybe, just maybe, a move for El Shaarawy isn't beyond the realms of possibility.
