Stoke Complete Pieters Signing From PSV

Stoke City have completed the signing of Dutch international and PSV defender Erik Pieters for an estimated fee of around £3million.

The 24-year old will become new boss Mark Hughes first signing of the summer with a 4-year contract being handed to the 17-time Dutch international.

Hughes spoke to the clubs' official website, "I am delighted to have secured Erik's signature,”

“The main focus this summer in attempting to strengthen the squad is ensuring it is balanced in key positions."

"While Erik is predominantly a left-back, he has also played for his country as a central defender, so he gives us other options."

The PSV full-back is remembered for the controversial incident which saw the player receive a red card on his return from a 9 month lay off from injury, he then proceeded to punch a window and slice his arm on his way to the club-rooms.

Pieters spent 3 months on the sidelines due to this cut and only managed to make 2 appearances for PSV. Now at Stoke, Pieters can hopefully return to his best in the coming seasons as he has immense talent.
