Arsenal Transfer News: Luiz Gustavo Leaving Bayern for the Emirates

Brazilian and Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo could be on his way to Arsenal with Arsene Wenger interested in signing the 25 year old.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich this season, having joined the Bavarian club from Hoffenheim for £12m in January 2011.

With Bayern flying high at the top of the Bundesliga table, Gustavo's chances in Jupp Heynckes' team have been limited and he is keen to move as soon as possible, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Wenger, meanwhile, knows he must strengthen an Arsenal side who sit sixth on the table and has players such as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke), Adrian Lopez (Atletico Madrid) and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier) in mind for reinforcements come January.

The Frenchman believes he can secure Gustavo for a fee of around £10m.

Wenger has also earmarked Abou Diaby for a more prominent midfield role when the France international returns from injury.
