Fiorentina Enter Race For Barcelona Striker David Villa

English clubs Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool face some competition in the form of Fiorentina in the race to sign FC Barcelona striker David Villa.

The Viola are ready to make a bid of €13million to acquire the services of David Villa and also Jonathan Dos Santos according to Spanish source AS.

Fiorentina finished the season just out of the Champions League positions in fourth place and if a couple more reinforcements are brought in, they could get a taste at top flight European football in the coming seasons.

Villa has admitted that it would be an 'interesting project' if he were to join the Italian club which has fueled speculation even further.

“I think it is excessive to say there is formal interest from Fiorentina, but we know the type of interesting project that Fiorentina have in mind,” Villa’s agent Victor Onate told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“I worked with current Fiorentina technical director Eduardo Macia at Valencia. We are friends and in constant communication. Fiorentina had a good season and their intention is to grow even more.

“David is concentrated on the Confederations Cup. Leaving a club like Barcelona is not easy and it depends on many factors, including next year’s World Cup, as clearly he wants to approach it as a protagonist.

“If he does leave, we are looking for an important project that will allow him to play at a high level. England or Italy makes no difference, as long as the project is good.”

Villa is currently on national team duties in Brazil with Spain so far winning both of their Confederations Cup clashes including a 10 goal win over Tahiti.
