Schalke Close in on Mainz Striker Adam Szalai

Schalke are on the verge of signing Hungarian international Adam Szalai after the two parties agreed to personal terms, report goal.com.

The former Arsenal target had a reported release clause of around €8.5million in his current contract but the German side who finish the season in 4th place are ready to meet it.

The 16 time Hungarian international is to be brought in to add more firepower to their front line in a bid to help mainstay goalscorer Klass-Jan Huntelaar with other forwards failing to impress.

The 25-year old has been impressive for the side who were promoted just a couple of seasons ago and all up has scored 17 goals and made 6 assists in all competitions this season from 40 appearances.

The signing of Szalai adds to the other two signings of Christian Clemens from Koln and also Borussia Dortmund's Felipe Santana who scored the goal against Malaga to see his side through to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
