Chelsea Eye Xabi Alonso on Free Transfer

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is interested in trying to sign Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso on a free transfer when his contract runs out.

The Spanish international has been on the sidelines for the past few months with an injury but is now on the road to returning but as it stands he may not get much playing time.

Real Madrid splashed the cash in the summer on Asier Illarramendi who was brought in to be the successor to Alonso so if the veteran returns to full fitness he may still be spending a lot of time on the sidelines still.

Now with the 31 year-old's contract running out at the end of this season, Alonso is allowed to sign a pre-contract in January and it seems he may be heading to Chelsea as they have a three year deal ready for him with world cup winner to turn down Liverpool.

A move to Chelsea means that he would be reunited with Mourinho as he moved from Madrid to London at the end of last season after coaching the Bernabeu side to a La Liga title during his coaching tenure.
