Transfer News: Liverpool Make £7.5m Bid For Davide Astori But Could Miss Out


Liverpool are interested in signing Cagliari and Italian international defender Davide Astori but they could still miss out with Southampton offering a bigger bid.

The 25-year-old defender is valued at £12m by his club Cagliari and Southampton have offered £9.5m and hope to strike a deal, with the Saints in particular need of defensive reinforcements after conceding 37 goals in the first half of the Premier League season.

Th Centre back has been linked with not just Liverpool and Southampton with Serie A giants and Juventus and Napoli showing a keen interest as well.

Astori has been capped twice at international level, and was among the Italy squad who were beaten by England in the early season friendly in Switzerland.

He was also a late consideration for Cesare Prandelli’s Euro 2012 when there were doubts over the fitness of Andrea Barzagli.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also struggling to close a deal with Blackpool for Tom Ince over the Championship club’s £7m valuation.

In other news New Signing Daniel Sturridge scored in his debut for the Reds as they won a controversial game against Mansfield. The former Chelsea striker opened his account in the first half before Luiz Suarez netted the winnner.
